Seeking a marketing strategy to showcase its historic district and also other distinctive neighborhoods, this world-class city adopted National Geographic’s Geotourism Principles, signed its Charter and invited residents to contribute content for a visitor mapguide with local recommendations about what to see and do, where to eat and shop. Hargrove served as project manager and editor for the Montreal MapGuide, working with the local advisory committee to prioritize content, organize a children’s art competition, and work with writers and historians to create a visitor guide produced by city leaders and residents. Tourism Montreal and the Mayor’s Office hosted a press conference to launch the mapguide and its companion website as a way to immerse visitors into local, authentic activities.
