American Nicaraguan Foundation (Miami & Nicaragua): Strategic Plan

Hargrove International staff was engaged by the American Nicaraguan Foundation (ANF), to build on its 20-year history of serving that country’s – Central and South America’s second-poorest – most vulnerable populations. The ANF, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit chartered in the United States, was prepared to significantly expand its programs and services but was unsure how to scale the organization without losing sight of its core mission. Working with leadership and staff both in its Miami offices and “in-country” in Managua and elsewhere, Hargrove International helped ANF identify its competitive advantages, revise its mission statement, develop a new complementary vision statement, develop six Strategic Initiatives, recast its business model, and craft a detailed four-year implementation plan designed to help the organization achieve its goals. The success of this initial strategic planning process led to a subsequent and equally successful engagement designed to improve ANF’s governance and enhance its fundraising capability.
